Hi,

My 1999 9-3 has recently taken to sputtering and stalling completely at random times. Most times, it happens when I am slowing fora red light, or stopped at one. When the rpms are low, it shudders, and occasionally conks out. When it is not doing that, the car runs beautifully. It has 167,000km on it, and has never had any other major problems that I know of. I've had it since the 50k mark.

My local Saab dealership has replaced all the sparkplugs, and they are now recommending a Direct Ignition pack be replaced, to the tune of over $1,000 Canadian.

I've authorized them to go ahead with this repair, but am having some obvious misgivings about doing so. Especially given the timing of this breakdown, in that I just paid a grand for a whole new set of brakes not four days ago.

Has anyone else had this problem, and had it solved by replacing the Direct Ignition system? Or is there something else that it can be? I swear, I'm gonna snap if this doesn't fix the problem and I'm out another grand.

Please advise!
