Just to keep you all updated...
I took my 99 9-3 SE to an indie shop that I trust near my home in New Jersey. They planned to put the car on an alignment rack, but once it was up on a lift, they said "that's completely unnecessary, I can SEE that it's WAY out."
He explained that he worked at a dealership for 10 years, and the first thing they look for in situations with this much damage is any signs of impact (be it paint chips, scrapes, etc). He said he can assure me that without a doubt, there are ZERO signs of impact, and garraunteed me that Saab could send out their BEST tech, and he would not find a single sign of any impact. He explained that the only way this could happen is through a manufacturing defect. He said to call Saab Cars USA at their 800 number, and squawk. He said, be nice, but be firm, and explain to them everything I just told you. Tell them how you've been chewing through tires, and that there are no shim kits available, and the only way to fix it is to replace the parts, and that there is nothing I could've done to cause this damage.
So I called Saab, and I filed a report, the rep seemed to be insistent that my chances are not good because I'm a second owner of this car -- and I quickly pointed out that regardless of that fact, there are NO signs of impact at all, and there would have to be some sign in order for it to be the driver's fault, no matter who the driver is. But they said they would contact the dealer, and someone would be in contact with me.
Any suggestions how to get better results from SaabUSA? What do I say if they call me and tell me they won't do anything about it? Should I be optimistic? Any success stories to share?
p.s. - I bought the car with 40k on it, it now has 58k.
