Thanks Chris. I don't think the vibration's from the steering rack.
It vibrates under throttle at 70mph and when braking at 70mph?? If it
only happened during braking I'd suspect the rotors (which probably need to be replaced). Does anyone know if rotors could vibrate the car during
acceleration?? I suppose a wheel balance is cheap and worth a try.
As for the steering rack. It appears to me where the arms attach in the
middle moves a bit. I wonder if clamping down the rack puts more stress
on this? That said, this would only move at high speed only by something else causing the movement.
I'll probably end up taking it to an independent and saying "the front
end vibrates at 70"... what do I need to replace (everything?). At my mileage it could be anything from struts to CV joints?
