The Viggen uses a Fuba amplified antenna, like VWs have. It has a spring-loaded fiberglass whip, which will bend and spring back when you take it through a car wash, but it also unscrews. It's not too hard to do a neat job installing one. I bought a Fuba Betaflex-D amplified antenna from http://www.antennaworld.com. It installs in a good-sized hole you drill in the roof. You can get versions that can also pick up cellular signals, and even TV signals, in addition to radio, if you want. I've never seen one that can also pick up Sirius or XM radio signals. The little lumpy antenna on the 9-3 is for OnStar. It's essentially a cellular phone antenna. The other style you can get is a "French style" which installs just above the windshield and points almost straight back. You'll see them on Ford Focus' and Cougars, and on old Citroens.
