Getting 250K out of the old 900 tranny is very unusual. I have rebuilt those everywere from 60 to 150K as the norm.
Saab have been updating the transmission parts ever since it came out in 94 in the NG900 model. First it was shifter linkage, than it was a whole reverse gear up date and so on.
The latest upgrade (probably including yours) is the latest I have heard and includes the most parts I have seen.
Taliaferro have a page about in on their website. Click on the link and go to trans update.
Overall though I haven't heard about that many failures of the later transmission, just a lot of shifting complaints, and many of them seems to be taken care of by using the new transmission oil.
