9-3 vs NG900, and Viggen (sorry for the re-post)

Hi all,
I am currently in the market for an NG900 or a 9-3 (both turbo and convertible for either model) and have read about the 9-3 Viggen. The specs look amazing. The question I have though, is does that added power really translate effectively to added performance, or is it just too much for FWD? Is it worth the extra $$$? Please note, my background is in only RWD, this would be my first performance FWD car, so my apologies if I appear slightly biased.
Can anyone offer me some advice on the NG900 vs. the 9-3? I can only afford up to maybe a 2000 9-3, but realistically, only up to a ’99 if I went the 9-3 route. With that in mind, am I better staying in the NG900 line, or would a ’99 9-3 still be better?
As a follow up - how much effort is involved to bring either an NG900 or a 9-3 up to Viggen performance and appearance? It's not only the specs that appeal to me, but the styling on the Viggen vs. the NG900 is quite nice.
I appreciate any help that you can provide.
Thanks,
Scott
