I bought a manual 97 SE Turbo convertible with 54k miles about a year and a half ago. I've had no problems with it. You guys are scaring me about all these costs I might have to put into it. However, within my firt year of ownership, I did have to pay about $500.00 for the scheduled 65k tuneup and another $400 to replace the brake pads and rotors.
Initially I test drove a 97 S convertible and thought it was okay, but a bit bland, not too quick, not as fun without the turbo rush. By this point, the 97 turbos as hardly any more expensive to buy than the base S model. Just get in checked out before you buy it and do the scheduled maintenance religiously. Go for the turbo.
