Serpentine Snapped -- I'm Lucky, its 1 Degree Here

So I thought I was noticing a very odd noise at idle, but since it's so cold I haven't had a chance to track it down. Tonight, I think I finally discovered what it was. Went to change lanes on the interstate on the way home and heard a noise like there was gravel under my car -- lights dimmed and the battery light came on. When I went to switch back into my lane, it was clear that my power steering was dead, and I could see the temp creeping up. Luckily my girlfriend was driving behind me, and I made it to within 3 blocks of my house before the temp creeped into the red. She lifted me the rest of the way home.
99 w/ 61k miles, was going to DIY on the 60k service next week. Guess this will bump that service up to tomorrow if I can find the parts locally.
Anyone got a quick guide on how to replace the belt, and reading the board looks like I should do the idler pulley as well... anyone have any tips on that? Anyway I can check to make sure its not a power-steering pump/alternator that accelerated the failure?
Thanks,
rob
