As luck would have it My idler siezed Wednesday AM. By luck I mean I smelled the cooking plastic before I drove away that morning, popped the bonnet and sure enough the Idler had melted, the belt was still intact but The car was obviously not drivable. Parts (Idler and Belt) were about $100 and were it not for the frigid temperatures, the job would have been a twenty minute breeze. Even with out a manual. Many thanks to a wife that made the run to the dealer and picked up the parts after dropping me off at work. Without that convienience I'd still be dead in the driveway. The hardest part was routing the new belt in,around and under some extremly tight areas with numb fingers and temps around 7 degrees.
Tools reqiured:
13mm box wrench (racheting box is a plus here)
8mm socket and 10mm socket for the side panel in the wheelwel (three screws)
a screwdriver to release the airbox cover and clamp (more for room to work than actually needed)
And a half inch extension bar 10" to stick n the square recess so you can relaese tension for positioning the new belt.
I am surprised at how simple the replacement went when I think back to my 9000.
One last thought:
Always get a new belt even if the old one looks good (as mine did). I am still wary of this bugger three days later, Have checked under the bonnet at least 6 times so far. Maybe I worry to much. Oh and the car is soooo quiet now.
