I'm not as technically saavy as some but our household has two late model 9-3's. My daily driver is a base '00 5dr with 37K, I paid about 12K 6 months ago and have averaged about 25-28 mpg and have been impressed by it comfort and reliability. My partner has a '01 Viggen convertible reading about 19K miles, this car has been a bit more troublesome, especially the automatic climate control and stereo (and a few other minor things). My recommendation is keep it simple...less "gimmicks" seems to mean more reliability.
Dont get me wrong the Viggen looks and performs GREAT, and I'm glad its in the stable, but we'll probably sell when the factory warranty runs out in '05.
My dealer told me that there was a service bulliten about the manual AC control and repalced them under warranty, no problems since.
