Granted, I LOVE, I mean absolutely love these two cars, but they have both had issues with the tops. My first one, leased in 99, had so many problems with the motor and the lining the entire thing was replaced. Never really worked right. That little car is history now though.
My #2 love, my current cayenne red one, gives me "check soft top latches" multiple times on the way up, and "soft top failure" going up and down. Also, it does not sense that the top is still too far away from the latches on the way up to close it. I have to convince it to keep going by pressing the button a couple of times. I don't know the solution yet. It also has a torn rubber seal around the base of the top (currently trying to find what the part is called). Probably from being dried in the FL sun.
You are not alone. And from what I have seen and heard from our Saab dealer, this is not unheard of.
