I think that you do not have a shred of evidence that 'worn' plugs cause DI's to die earlier. I don't like it that others start running with this as gospel. There has been too much mythology about that. DI's simply do not last, and its worse with the T7's. When they fail is quite variable. There is more that one failure mode. The influence of plugs may be quite insignificant.
If your 7ES plugs are fouled, you need 6ES plugs. Plugs can last 30 K, but you really should be pulling them for inspection and regap. Yes plugs need to be maintained. How they stand up depends on how you drive, what fuels you use how long your trips are. You need to look at your plugs and learn how they stand up. Rules of 15 or 30 K are not universal. They are good rules if they work for you and you know how they look.
If you care taking care of your plugs appropriately, the DI will be happy. If plugs are neglected, starting and surging at low throttle power in first gear would be begging for action.
