My best advice to you would be to take your car and do some events before you sink too much $$ into the car. You'll hear the saying "develop the driver before the car".
I can't comment directly on using a Saab for such events, but I have a bit of experience in Autocross and On-track DE with my 1982 911SC. I see no reason why you could not run your Saab in these events. If you did get into modifications, the best thing you could do for these events is suspension upgrades. Remember, AutoX is mostly in 1st, and sometimes 2nd gear....it's all about driver control. And on the track, it's all about how much speed you can carry thru corners. I routinely get my butt kicked by cars with far less HP b/c they are piloted by drivers with more skill than I have, and also often have a better suspension setup.
Rear swaybar upgrade is a must. Stiffer springs, shocks/struts, polyurethane bushings, etc will help.
Check out the performance BBS here, there's gotta be some folks doing this.
