Has the engine ever been on a dyno and the A/F quantified? My guess is the thing was running too lean. How long has Abbott been doing T7's? I've witnessed their tuning methods for T5's and can't imagine how they graduated to the T7 - I can see someone getting by with it for the occasional spin on the highway, but prolonged use on a track? - "Too lean, too long, too bad".
