I failed to mention that the three or four times I had the tires balanced I also had them rotated. I just went to visit my car at the shop, and I did actually see the bent axel shaft for the right tire. The machanic hoisted it up and tried to show me an imediate indicator why he believe it was also the transmission. While the car was off he just spun the tire with his and hand and there was a quiet ticking noise coming from the transmission. That's why he wanted to call in the transmission specialist. That and he said the vibration was worse with new axel. I'll get an estimate tomorrow on the transmission thing. I almost asked for a refund for the axel parts because it didn't fix the problem, but then I saw the old axel. So I'm sure that had something to do with it, but I'm afraid it seems like a chain reaction. He also said the tie rod is slightly warn out but he didn't think that would cause the vibration that I'm experiencing.
I'm startin' to think that when I bought the car the old tires had been warn to counter act the bent axel. So when I started straightening things everything came unglued. Moral of the story, if it's broke fix it right away so it doesn't just adapt itself to the problem by breaking everything else. I did have it checked out before I bought it and it drove like a dream then.I haven't hit anything besides maybe a pothole or two, if a pothole does this much damnage I think I need a new car, or I need to move to a city where the streets are paved with gold.
I can't afford to really fix the transmission right now. I wonder how long I could actually drive the car if I can live with the annoying vibration now. I wonder what else will break if I drive it like that. I wonder if someone wants to steal my car. . . I wonder if Saab wants to recall my 9-3. . .
Thanks for all the posts, it helps me deal with all of this just a little better. And yes Saab certified, just on the ghetto side (not a dealer).
thanks,
carrie
