UPS……….They should be imprisoned for there brokerage fees in Canada. They've tried to charge me $80 brokerage fees on $20 item. I use alternates such as FEDEX ground. When I have to receive product via UPS I use my own customs broker, which was very easy to setup after calling around. You can ensure that UPS funnels paperwork through your broker by doing the following;
1. Ask vender to indicate this on weigh bill.
2. If your shipping to yourself, eg. John Doe, have the items shipped to John Doe Inc., In the event that the vendor neglects to put customs broker info on slip, UPS will call you up (John Doe Inc.) and ask if you have you own broker.
On couple of occasions they have tried to deliver anyway using there own in-house extortionist brokerage. I've pointed out the recipient (John Doe Inc.) and indicated that it was supposed to go to my own customs brokers. They take back the item, confirm everything, reverse the customs charges, forward the paperwork to my broker, and then deliver. Fees using my own brokerage tend to run 15-25% of UPS.
UPS should be investigated for racketeering in Canada.
