These are all good points and I appreciate them. The fact is that I need a good relationship with the dealer, who will provide warranty service, and Anders, who will do most of my non-warranty maintenance. Not that I would ask for unnecessary work from either of them just to make them feel better.

As a physician, I understand the subtleties of professional disagreements and conflicting theories of cause and effect. I am generally a liberal practitioner who will tend not to order the borderline test or treatment, but the fact is that I have been burned by doing this just as my colleagues have overspent royally.

The fact is that I did not get new rotors, and I did only replace one set of brake pads, unlike the full job I would have done had I not seen Anders. I'll take a look again at the rotors with Anders in several thousand more miles and see what the status of the "hot spots" are, and of the rust.

Just because I don't take a particular person's complete advice doesn't mean I don't respect them or find their argument reasonable. It's all part of making decisions with incomplete information, a situation many of us find ourselves in every day.
