I had this problem on my '94 NG900. take off the sunroof motor in the front of the sunroof (takes five minutes) Then you will need to open the motor up and then use emery paper and sand the points very carefully. This could take car of you problem and the motor should not lock up anymore. The second problem it could be the switch may be going bad or it might be dirty. If you buy some electro-wash at Radio Shack or another electronic parts store and spray the switch it should dislodge any particles that have gotten in there. Hopefully this works out for you. The dealer told me they would only replace the motor and not take it apart and check it. The last place you want to go to is the dealer because the parts can get very expensive. If the motor is shot and cleaning does not work I would check the parts classified on this sight and see if someone has the motor from a vehicles they are parting out.
Good Luuck!
