In theory they should last 60-100k miles, but many seem to fail before 60k.
Mine sounded off intermittently for a few days... took the car to the dealer, and asked to check the belt (did not know about the pulleys then). Told me belt was fine (which it was), and two days later around 10 pm a pulley and the belt went out on the interstate (54k miles). Tow, belt, pulley, labor... around $300. Replaced only one of course.
Less that a year and 9k later, same thing, except second pulley failed. Took it to an independent mechanic to explain what was going on, so we changed both, one replaced with "Saab" pulley (made in Hungary), second one with a Dayco pulley.
Recently at 100k miles, the Saab pulley bearing was clicking and running out of grease, and the pulley was loose. Good thing is that you can do it yourself before it comes apart.
I think someone here reported over 50 tow-ins with broken belts/pulleys to one dealer just this winter.
