Old proverb worth a mention... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:31:13 In Reply to: Factory vs Aftermarket AUDIO options, 97titan, Mon, 9 Feb 2004 11:37:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Nothing usually has as good a fidelity or reception as the factory stuff in the factory location. Even nicely done upgrades don't add to the resale value, stock is always worth more.
Having said that Yak covered a lot of good stuff. It's your money and your car suit yourself. I'd upgrade the speakers first. Changing decks or heads won't make it sound any better with the same speakers. I think the factory subwoofers in the doors with the amp sounds much better, pretty good actually. Someone else just posted he thought it was no big deal. It should be easy to find an SE with the upgrade to listen to.
If you switched to a factory CD in the dash I believe the factory changer would still work.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Factory stuff has to be "married" and "divorced" form the car using a Tech II at the dealer. You can't just take 'em in and out. The dealer's electronic wand, the Tech II, must bless them coming and going or they become locked up. It's an anti-theft measure.
