I suppose it sounds kinda weak just to say 'they do LOTS of inspections', but there's a ton of stuff that isn't scheduled. Like brakes. How long brakes last depends on so many things, it could be 20k or 90k miles. They don't schedule them by mileage.
Some people go thru ball joint every couple years, but they don't schedule replacements if they're not bad. If they go bad & you don't know it, your tires just wear out quickly & unevenly.
If you want to DIY that stuff, lots of it is really easy. Don't forget the anti-freeze & brake fluid changes, either (every 2 years?) Search around here (you've seen the DIY posts, right?) Look at the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual & think about whether you want to inspect each of those things yourself.
