Actually, my Saab dealer (JWK Saab) does the little handheld code reader as a courtesy (free) :). If you're under warranty, please go to your dealer first so there isn't a dispute about another mechanic's work invalidating your warranty coverage. If there is a charge outside of the warranty then I would make the decision to stay w/dealer or go to my favorite mechanic.
My problem arose AFTER my 60K service. In addition, when the dealer got the O2 sensor reading -- they cleared it on the spot on a Saturday right before the Service Dept. was about to close for the day. So far, so good with the gas change. Knock on wood, the "check engine" light has stayed out since changing over to Exxon-Mobil gas.
Well, that's my 2 cents!
