I bought a 99 'vert w/ auto tranny a few months ago and I agree it only has OK to adequate power.
However, the first thing to check is to see if you buddy is using the sport mode (if auto). Its a switch on the gear selector-- when engaged it helps a lot by changing shifts points etc. It always turnes itself off when you turn off the car so remember ot engage it. The second thing is that the CPU is adaptive to one driving style. If one pushes the car a little harder it wil adapt some of the shift, turbo profiles and the car will respond a litle better at the expense of fuel economy. And most importatntly use PREMIUM GAS it will adapt to lower grades of gas at the expense of performance by retarding performance profiles.
After that, your into aftermarket adjustments...
