We're actually selling the 9-3 (sold on this board no less!) in a couple of weeks. I informed the buyer and gave him an opportunity to back out, but he's up on Saabs, and realizes that this is a known Saab weakness. Car's coming off lease, and among other things, figured it be better to go to a fellow Saab'er than to just hand back to the dealer (and added an aftermarket cup holder that I was afraid Saab would want to have removed and replace the center console as a result -- even though someone who looked at the car recently thought it was stock!).
My 9-5's lease is up in September, and I keep going back and forth as to whether I should keep the car (financially, makes complete sense, and I like the car, and the only other cars I like better -- Audi A8L and Maserati Quattroporte -- are seriously more expensive). But if I do, first thing I'm going to do is buy a replacement DI and throw it in the trunk. Now that I've seen where the DI goes, I figure that even I, not very automotively inclined under the hood except for checking and adding oil and windshield wiper fluid, could do the swap.
And I should add that if anyone in the Seattle area needs a recommendation for a service shop, I wholeheartedly recommend Barrier Saab (which is actually one of the things that is also making me lean towards keeping the 9-5).
