I just replaced our plugs in the same manner ('99 9³, switched from "city" BCPR6ES to "hwy" BCPR7ES, dielectric in the boots & copper anti-seize on the threads) & also got a CEL. Turns out I forgot to re-attach the connector to the TBTC when I pulled that off to clean & lube the TB. With the connector off, the car stumbled at first during idle a acceleration but then drove fine. Plugging the connector back in had no effect on driveability at that point, but it also didn't turn off the CEL. After two days the CEL went out by itself.
I also wondered if getting dielectric on the plug ends (when re-seating the DI cassette) would cause poor enough contact to trigger a CEL? If I hadn't found the detached connector first, I was going to pull off the DI & clean the plug ends with alcohol.
