Gear Selector Cable Problems

Short Story:
I need a picture of a 93 Gear Selector Cable- The segment in the engine bay fron the adjustable mount to the gearbox... OR sound advice.
Long Story:
I have a 1999 93, Automatic Transmission that has performed perfectly... until now. It started with a sticky gear selector after a long trip. No big deal. Very soon after, it began to hesitate before it went into gear, about 1-3 seconds after I put it in gear. Then, right before the long trip home, I couldn't start my car because I was locked out of park. I was able to barely find a small bit of neutral to start the car and get going on my trip home... and I somehow made it. But now I need to fix it.
I noticed that the cable is actually visible. NOT the black cable sheathing, but the shiney metallic wire on the inside. I can see it between the adjustable mounting and the part of the wire that connects to the gearbox. Clean metal on an engine component is a sure sign that its not supposed to be that way! I can also see a small plastic cone shaped cap around one end of the sheathing. So I tried to squeeze the two ends back together, but I'm now pretty sure its not supposed to be that way. Trouble is, I don't remember what it looked like before, so I have no reference. I've looked everywhere for the part, but haven't found it. Anyone have it or know where I can find it??? I've also looked all over this WONDERFUL site... to no avail. Anyone else have this trouble???
Thanks for your help!
