Poor headlight bulb choices?

Both the Silverstar and PIAA headlight bulbs have a history of short life in the NG900/9-3 for whatever reason. I use the Philips VisonPlus, which are supposedly 50% brighter than stock, and get 9- 12 months bulb life and I have the daytime running lights enabled.
Sometimes one or both of the headlight wipers will park in an odd position if the washers are used in a short burst. A longer use of the washers seems to allow the wipers to park properly. Maybe just a Saab quirk.
The DIC is a worry. I had the original DIC fail in a store parking lot at 68k-miles. I carry a spare DIC in the trunk and was on my way in a few minutes. It seems kind of silly to need to carry a spare DIC, but with the NG900/9-3 Saabs it is like carrying a spare tire (you hope you never need it).
