I did some diagnostic work on my bad wiper motor. The problems seems to be that the don't run long enough and the short run time leave the brushes or armature dirty. The suggestion of pulling the wiper and letting it run for a while is a good idea. If you are mechanical/electrical you can tweak it to leave it running for a few minutes by opening it and just powering up the motor. HOWEVER, it is not designed to be maintained (replacement is the process). If you do this, mark *everything* in position and take digital pictures as you go.
As for the Audi... they have had their share of reliability problems over the years too. In fact, they had a serious coil (DIC) problem last year and it was so bad that coils were out of stock worldwide. They had to acquire more manufacturing capacity just to catch up. So, they are no panacea. No care is without faults these days.
