My main experience with saab clutches is with pre '94 900s. Those clutches were hydraulic, an you could instantly tell by feeling the clutch pedal pressure if there was a likely fluid leak, or other engagement issues.
Even if the NG900s have a cable driven clutch, I would think the pedal would also feel completey loose if the cable had snapped, or if the clutch release bearing/fork was somehow stuck.. I would be really surprised if that was the problem.
>Would any of the starter problems cause the car to stall out while driving and would they also trump any attempts at jumping the battery?
Nope. The starter gears are only engaged with the starter gear on the flywheel when the starter is fully egaged (via the solenoid). If you've ever tried to start the car while its already running, you'd have heard that nasty grinding noise the starter gear makes as it 's grinding against the flyweel ring gear.
Even though you may have lights, stereo, etc when the ignition switch is on, you may (and I suspect, probably) still have a battery issue. If you have a voltmeter (a.k.a. multimeter) put the meter leads on the battery terminal and read the voltage when the lights, stereo, etc are on. If it reads under 11volts, I'd say the battery is toast.
Did the truck driver leave the battery jump cables on your battery when you tried starting the car after a jump? If not, your battery might not be accepting a charge (bad battery). If he left the cables on (and there was good contact on the terminals), that would point more to an ignition relay, starter solenoid, or starter motor problem. I haven't checked the WIS yet, but on older 900s (pre '94) the starter and the solenoid were coupled together. So, if its bad, buying a new starter often means getting a new solenoid too...
