Thanks for all of the responses!
For what it's worth, I'm in Wichita, KS.
The main problem around here is that the Saab franchise has changed hands several times in the last 10 years. And each time it's gone to a less reputable place. Before the current place, it was shared with the Buick dealer. Before that, Volvo (they were actually pretty good). And between each franchise change, there's usually a year or two with no franchise at all. There's only 250 Saabs of all ages registered in the metro area, so I'm not surprised at the low quality of the dealers or the lack of indies.
My next closest dealers are in Kansas City or Tulsa. I don't know much about the Tulsa dealer, but KC guys are pretty good, but that's a long way (2.5+ hours) to take a car that needs real service.
Before the Viggen, I had a 1992 Audi S4 (the current S6 type car). Even with all of the trouble Audis are supposed to have, it was probably the most trouble free car I've ever owned. I'd get another one to replace the Viggen, except that there isn't an Audi franchise at all in town. And I really don't want an Acura or BMW.
Oh, I dropped the car off with the dealer today to have the front spoiler repainted at their expense. They actually told me, "all of the Saabs we work on are scratched on the front - it's just the way the car is". Aargh!
Sounds like it may be time to go buy some shop manuals...
