long winded answer for you Posted by adam [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Replace A/C compressor - what other parts needed?, Steven, Fri, 5 Aug 2005 11:38:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If just your clutch is broken and not the compressor it can be changed on the car without opening the system. I just did this. When opening the system it is a good idea to replace the receiver dryer because this absorbs the extra moisture left from vacumming.
Moisture + R134 =acid =bad.
One of the reason's I didn't change the whole compressor was not wanting to open a working system. The receiver/dryer is a $100, I was trying to avoid spending.
They recommend changing the evaporator valve at the same time because it is a mechanical part that can wear out and if you're already opening the system might as well change anything within reason that might go bad to save you from having to reopen the system in 6 months or a year.
If opened you'll have to recharge the system regardless, once opened all r134 is lost. As for a flush that's just kinda up to you, it'll clean everything out but will it really do anything, who knows.
hope this helps,
adam
