Car is totaled...the update (long)

Car is listed as a total loss from flood damage. (Insert crying here) When I talked to the dealer a day after the flood, they told me that the engine was running. Oddly last Friday, they showed the adjuster that the engine had "hydro-lock" and would need to be replaced. They also said that it was in need of "a computer" and would not start anyway. Basically, I don't trust the dealer.
So, I was told that the market value was $2395. If I want to keep the car they would deduct $400, which is the salvage value. (BTW, I just spent $450 on the A/C two weeks ago...) I think I am going to keep it and put the "good" parts on my 9-3 before I sell it.
Is $2395 a vaild number?
'96 900SET 3-door (registered in NY) with 249,900 miles. KBB retail is $4XXX.
Thanks for any advice!
