Hi all,

I am looking to buy either a later 900 or 9-3, both convertible with a manual transmission and have some basic questions. From what I can tell, I'd be best starting in '97 or '98. My budget will let me go as new as ’01, maybe ’02. Additionally, I am looking for one that is the highest trim level, i.e. - SE (unfortunately, the Viggen is out of my price range). Personally, I prefer the looks of the 9-3, but not so much that I won’t consider the 900.

Here are my questions/concerns:
1. Other than looks, am I gaining anything by going to the 9-3?
2. What does the later 900 have that the 9-3 doesn't?
3. The '99 9-3 models seem to be priced pretty low, are there common problems that plague these?
4. Saab kept it simple with the 900, "S" was base, "SE" was the high level. It appears they started playing games with these letters for the 9-3, and changed with the model year. Can any one give me (or point me to) a year by year rundown of the trim levels available. For instance, I believe I read somewhere that for certain years, the convert. was automatically the high level.
5. Is there a rundown anywhere of major common problems on kind of a year by year basis?
6. Finally, is there a place that lists major changes and packages by model year for the 900 and/or the 9-3 (both in convert)?

Thanks for all your help,
Scott
