Hello all. I have a 1997 Saab 900S 2.3L coupe, 5 spd. I took it to my mechanic to do a bunch of work and get it inspected, as I have been behind on maintenance this year. He found that the right front strut tower was almost completely corroded/rotted away, all the way around. Only the part on the outside edge is holding the entire assembly to the car. He said he found this once before on a Saab, and that it broke away up into the hood.
It appears that my Saab 8 year corrosion warranty has run. My mechanic said the job would easily run near the value of the car, and that it would be a very lengthy repair (and would need a whole front corner of another Saab to get everything from). Has anyone seen this/heard of this? Is it worth sinking any money into? The rest of the car is in great condition inside and out, the leather still looks new. I just don't know whether it is a total loss at this point.
Thanks.
