Some of the turbos will have different exhaust inlet and outlet flange designs and will not bolt up. And the location of the output may change as well with implications for the downpipe.
The turbo has:
1-air in
2-air out
3-exhaust in
4-exhaust out
5-oil in
6-oil out
7-coolant in
8-coolant out
Thats a lot of connections, so a different turbo does not neccessarily fit.
Just changing a turbo would not increase boost or power by it self in any significant way.
There might be a direct fit option, but I thought that you should be aware of the above.
Oil in the 'air' side of things is normal.
I do not know if a 2000 HOT has a different turbo or not, but there are options for more power other than turbo changes. When one does upgrades, changing the turbo itself is one of the last things that one considers.
I can't help with the blue smoke issue.
