my '00 base started having the "blue smoke" on cold starts at about 53K mi...could see oil in the throttle body after it had been sitting for a while

had the turbo rebuilt for 345 + shipping by evergreen turbo -- some the of the saabnet sponsors have exchange new units for 440

only special tool i needed for the turbo was 12mm gearwrench to get to the oil and water banjo fittings on the turbo -- found broken exhaust manifold stud behind p/s pump which was a pain to fix.. pretty straighforward repair -- drain coolant and p/s pump and tank -- intake plumbing, remove p/s pump, loosen manifold bolts and all turbo bolts so you can access and loosen the banjo fittings... then you can pull exhaust manifold and turbo out...

might consider replacing water pump while everything is apart -- mine started leaking about a week later... routing of oil feed to turbo is major design mistake -- probably the cause of most premature failures
