Since the computer learns the octane over multiple trips the 93 every once in a while is probably wasted - even if it just averages the ignition curve then you're teaching it to run on 88 octance which won't show any better than 87 - if it did compensate fast enough between tanks you should notice the difference and it would infuriating to have the car cutting power almost always (humans have learning curves too!) I would stick to one or the other - I had some actual knock between 1600-2000 rpm on unleaded this summer in TX and it wasn't even that hot (top 90's) so I switched to 93, now the guage goes further into the yellow (I put stickers on the dash so I could visually mark the spots since the guage doesn't have markings, and confirmed my inital readings without them)
