Replace DIC for preventive maintenance reasons?

Hi,
P1312 and P1334 popped up on my Actron Pocketscan (a nice tool, by the way). CEL has been coming on and off intermittently for last few months. I have a spare DIC in the trunk.
With 70k miles on the car (2000 93 SE CVT), is there any merit in going ahead and replacing the DIC along with new plugs? Or should I definitely try just new plugs first and wait to see if the CEL turns on? I have read postings from Dean and others suggesting trying plugs only first; but in this case, I've already spent the money on a spare DIC.
It seems as though the answer would depend on the real incidence of failing DICs at this mileage. If Saab's guidance is still to swap out plugs only first in response to this code, is it fair to say that DIC failure rate is low (say, under 5%)? I'm not saying that in the era of six sigma that this failure is acceptable, but I'd be interested in hearing from the more seasoned mechanics about the probability that these codes are coming from soiled plugs rather than DIC.
