Thanks for the info. I have a 1995 900s (900NG). I was at a loss about changing the transmission fluid until I found this thread. Here's my experience
1995 900s, automatic transmission, 2.3L Naturally Asperated
The drain bolt is (as described in the previous message), near the catalytic converter, 24mm, facing the passenger side.
I couldn't get a socket on it because there's not enough clearance. I had to buy a 24mm box wrench. It worked fine. When I removed the bolt some ATF splattered on the catalytic converter. It smells bad but I don't think it will hurt anything. I also wiped some black stuff off the inside of the drain bolt. I suspect it was metal particles, but I'm not positive that the drain bolt is magnetic. I used Mobil 1 synthetic Dexron III rated ATF.
Also, I worked out how much new transmission fluid is in the transmission. Assuming that 3 quarts drain out, is replaced by 3 quarts of new fluid, and the total is 7.4 quarts. I know the manual says differently, but I only get 3 quarts out.
you start with 0% new fluid
after one drain/fill you have 40.5% new fluid
after a second drain/fill you have 64.6% new fluid
after a third drain/fill you have 78.9% new fluid
after a fourth drain/fill you have 87.5% new fluid
after that it gets a little expensive.
