This was a little distressing to me, early on, until I understood how those wiper motors worked.
Three wires run to these wiper motors. One is ground, another is +12v when the ignition is on, and the third provides +12V to push the wipers out of the park position when you use the windshield washer. Once the wipers are pushed far enough by the washer input, the wipers will cycle several (five?) times and return to the park position using only the constant +12v connection (and ground). If you don't squirt long enough, the wipers don't leave the park position entirely, and will stop wherever they are.
It's kind of silly, like leaving your zipper down. You don't even know about it until you've left the car and come back to it.
So, just try giving your windshield another 1/2 second or so of squirt than you would normally use, and you will avoid this problem.
I'm assuming that the park position wasn't altered by multiple disassemblies of the units.
Otherwise, you can always unplug the motors, plug the washer tubes to the headlights, and let us all know if the car gave you any errors.
