When doing work for the first time, you need to do a survey of all the fasteners before you start. It is good to read the instructions on thie BB and others. Note that for front pads there are two methods, one removing guide bolts and the other removing the whole caliper assembly. The first is a more standard technigue. The later can be used when also replacing the rotors, but can be tricky. In most situations someone would do both.

More on fasteners. You need to know that the factory can and will change fasterner head styles over time. So hex key cap screws may change to hex head bolts, or internal or external torx. So read then survey.

You need to understand the show stoppers. IE if replacing rotors, you need to get the index screw freed up before you do anything else. These can have torx or hex heads. +It can be hard to tell which in a dim garage+. You need to clean the recess out to remove rust etc. Use a hardened bit/socket type, not a key! +Drive the bit+ into the recess with a hammer to get it fully seated. These index bolts are soft and are very easy to strip. If you do not heed the precautions here, you may end up haveing to drill it out and get a new fasteners.
