I recently went through a similar situation. I dearly love my '93 convertible and had been using it as my daily driver. But I wanted to return it to it's proper statis as a weekend/summer car. I really love the classic 900's and had intended to get another one, or a mid 90's 9000. I just couldnj't find a good example of either locally and didn't have the time to travel all over the country looking for one. I ended up finding a '98 900SE 5spd with 118K for about the money I was looking to spend on a classic 900 or '94/95 9000. I really like this car a lot and I'm glad I bought it instead. NG900's are a real bargain and you can get a lot of car for the money. The earlier ones had some issues, so the newer you buy the better. But even with the earliest ones the problems weren't insurmountable--all Saabs (actually all cars do) have things that go wrong. Just buy the nicest one you can.
