Would an upgrade to 225/45-17 help?

I can't address the 16" rims. Have you considered wider tires? I've been doing a lot of research lately on buying tires and have noticed that a number of threads have mentioned changing to 225/45-17 (instead of 215/45) and getting a softer ride. This is because the 45 aspect ratio with the wider tire increases the distance between the rim and the road, thus should provide more cushion. Many of the postings say the ride is more comfortable with 225, but the Yokohama tire website contradicts this by stating a wider wheel will improve handling at the expense of ride quality, while a narrower wheel will improve ride quality at the expense of handling. If the wider tire provides more cushion (I don't know that it does, but seems logical), you can use your old rims.
I'm considering going to 225, but for a different reason. In my case, I have summer performance tires (215) that I enjoy but am considering going to Pzero-nero M&S (all season) to provide some traction in light snow and freezing rain - currently in DC area, anything over an inch of snow keeps me off the road. I don't have storage space for an extra set of tires, so it's not possible to have both summer and winter tires. I'm concerned that the all season tire will noticeably reduce performance (acceleration, traction in aggressive turns, etc). Perhaps going to 225 will increase amount of rubber on road, but at what cost to performance? That's my dilemma. Any comments from those experienced with 225 on a Viggen would be apprecated.
