225/45/17 is a good move. Handling remains excellent, but there is slightly more rubber between the tire and road for nicer ride. Slightly better grip too. I've had this size 4 of 6 years in my 99 Viggen.
Stock tires by this point are probably pretty hard and noisy too. A fresh set of tires should be a little softer, grippier, and quieter. I have Avon M500 on the car at the moment and am very pleased.
