They are always so tempting because of the price, but it could be real trouble. It might be alright if it's going to be a weekend/summer car, but if it's your main mode of transportation it's not good. How many miles do you drive a year? I just bought a '98 900SE hatch with 118K, but I only drive 12 miles to work and have my '93 covertible as a backup. Are you paying cash or financing it? You are going to be making regular repairs on this car so you don't want to make a payment too. If you're financing, you might want to think about spending a little more, adding another year to the loan and getting something with fewer miles-even if its a year or two older. For another two or three grand you could probably get something with 70 or 80K--and it wouldn't add much to the payment. You are going to be spending money one way or the other--if you spend a little more now you'll spend a lot less later.
