Just bought a '98 900SE hatchback 5-speed yesterday for $2700. Only 125k miles. The car is fairly clean and came with new Falken tires, service records, and the owner's manual. It does need a few relatively minor things (lift hatch struts, antenna mast, spoiler, O2 sensor).

Getting to the point of this thread....
The biggest issue is that the radio is non-functional. When I push the volume knob in to turn it on I get the "----" display on the SIN. I should note that I do hear the power antenna motor working. I've already done the following:
1) Held down the "Band" button until it displays "Code In". I then entered the four digit code that came with the car.
2) Removed fuses 11, 13, and 25, then replaced them, then repeated #1.
3) Removed the radio, let it sit out for 1 - 2 hours. Reinstalled and ran the car with the radio on for over an hour, then repeated #1.

Every time it re-displays the "----". I have a few theories as to why the stereo isn't working:

1) The battery looks to be new. I'm assuming that when they replaced the battery, the codes were reset.

2) The batteries for the key-alarm remote are dead. I'm going to Radio Shack tomorrow to fix them. Hopefully arming and disarming security will fix the problem, but not likely...

3) The CD changer is missing the CD holder/cassette. Maybe the radio non-functionality is related to the CD changer?

4) The car has an external cell phone antenna on the rear windshield. Maybe the radio got messed up when they installed the antenna? (ok, not likely)

5) The radio was replaced and the previous owners didn't know about the code thing. Is there any way to tell?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
