I replaced my check valve recently, as a precaution (roughly 3,000 miles ago). Weird how others have had problems. No DIC failures either....maybe I'm just lucky. I am very meticulous about my maintenance, I use a flush ever 60,000 miles (nothing fancy, berrymen's in the oil for 5 minutes at idle)but I don't feel that is the reason for its health. I'm not "nice" to the motor no warmup, but hardly any stop and go or short trips. Hell it's even chiped!
Yes, as soon as Ford bought Volvo my love affair of many years and many miles ended. Ford took them down in my opinion. Less reliable, all FWD (sorry Saab, RWD is still better) and I like boxy. Now they're catching on fire etc. My father who I turned on to Volvo still drives a 122 wagon, but his '99 V70 hasn't been very good to him.
I think GM has been good for Saab reliability, but we've lost our identity. Like everything else in GM's portfolio Saab seems to be 'me too!' rather than innovative. Hopefully the flex fuel, a few diesels and maybe that variable compression engine will see production. Unfortunatel every time Saab seems to come up with something new the rest of GM steals it.
