What did you do when you changed the pads? Did you loosen the bleeder screw, monkey with the fluid reservoir, or what? Changing the pads doesn't require doing anything but pushing the calipers pucks back, and shouldn't introduce any air into the system. Now if you kinked a hose or broke something while taking the calipers off, that could have let air into the system. Also if you loosened the bleeder screw and had your friend pump the brakes, every time the pedal came up it sucked air into the system, unless you tightened the screw before he let the pedal up.
