The opeative word for both is: garbage. Within six months of leasing my '02 9-3 convertible (i.e., sinking money into something I didn't own at the time), I had dropped $2300 on audio equipment. Audio comes down to power, and the stock 150-watt system in the convertibles is no match for wind noise.
If you can DIY, you can probably save $1,000+ in labor (so check out Crutchfield, etc., but watch out for the side airbag sensors in the door panels, they're more than $1000 to replace). Regardless, I would suggest replacing the speakers with Alpine Type-S (components in the front, 5x7's in the back), definitely get yourself an amp (I have an Alpine V-12 series that delivers about 340 watts), a dedicated subwoofer (Bazooka tubes are great, especially the ones with integrated amps, you get another 200-watts of power), and the new head units with integrated preamps and I-Pod/Sirius hooks ups are way cool.
Off the bat, I was a cheap-o and didn't do everything at once, which was a mistake, as the inferior Saab amp kept blowing the tweeters in the dash (Alpine dealer hated me). However, once I took the plunge, I have to say that the audio system has proven to be the most reliable, trouble-free and enjoyable part of the car.
If the car comes back in one piece from the 60K service on Monday, I may take some bonus money in March and replace the head unit with an Alpine CDA-9855. The nice part about good audio equipment is that it can be transferred to you next car too.
