Well I am the original poster of the speeding ticket, just a day ago. Here is what transpired. I pleaded not guilty and pushed the trial date out 2 times, the third time ( yeaterday )there are no excuses and you must attend. Otherwise contempt charge can result. The trooper had all the formal documentation regarding the calibration of the radar gun, complete with model number, manufacturer, historical test and calibration over the life of the gun, all testing is done by a 3rd party testing facility, the results were all within +/- 2 mph. The trooper also provided his technical traning certificate AND refresher course certificate. In my particuler case my statey was also an instructor for newbies.
The situation: 85 in a 65mph zone, clear roads and weather, 2 lane highway.
Had I pleaded guilty; $350 fine and 4 points
The end result; 150 fine with 3 poiints, speed was also reduced to 74 mph.
How? Real simple, don't plead guilty, push the trial out as much as possible, prior to trial ask for for certifacation, calibration data, trooper certification etc. Do some research regarding the proceeding and charge. Show up 1/2 hour early for your trial, check in with clerk, prior to you standing in front of the judge you will be asked twice to settle, the first one ignore- tell the court officer you intend on proceeeding. the second one- use your negotiation skills what you feel is suitable. as you go back into the courtroom ask for more reduction of fine, points or "making a contribution" to the town. Ask if points can be adjusted-if you agree to take point a traffic class for example.
Lastly pray the the trooper doesn't show up, check your paperwork, expecially the ticket, time of day, Make model, year discription, make sure your name is spelled correctly, etc.
good luck
